Not sure of your engine, however, on the twin turbo six motor....there is a shield over the oil filter and part of the oil pan. it is made of metal and is attached by three wing nut bolts. Check to see if it is attached properly. This can flex if not installed properly.
i’m not sure if other motors have this cover, but I would check that.

Thanks, good tip. I have the non-turbo 3.5L V6, but will definitely have a look at this when I get back home next week. They did replace the timing belt cover due to a slow oil leak that was only noticeable by smell, and I did have the oil changed less than 2 weeks before this first happened.
Now that the temperatures have warmed up into the 20s and 30s the noise has stopped, so might be a while before I know if there is still a problem.
