2002 Explorer Sport driver side brake light

Hi all,

Recently gifted a 2002 Explorer Sport to my daughter for high school graduation.

We are having a few electric gremlins, most importantly an intermittent driver side brake/turn signal not working. Is this a common issue? Used a test light on the plug and trailer socket, brakes for driver side does not work on either the brake socket or trailer socket. Can't seem to locate the connection for these under the truck. Does anyone know where it might be?

Thanks in advance.

Could be the the relay under your dash. There is a YouTube video on it. It is pita to change out. You can buy the relay in AutoZone for about ten bucks and hope it fixes your problem. When I signal to make a turn the signal stops working after like 3 or 4 blinks. The relay fixed mu problem.

I'd get a motorcraft relay. Other ones will last a year or so and will stop working. For the pain it is to change, it's worth the extra price. My 04 Aviator that I've put 200k on did it twice before I put a motorcraft one in . Put it in at 125k, no problems so far

The turn signal/hazard bulb goes through the blinker relay and the park lamp through the park lamp relay, but the brake light does not go through a relay.

I've attached the wiring diagram for 2nd gen Explorers, you can use a multimeter to measure for voltages and check wire continuity point to point and check for a good ground.
