2006 Explorer if I turn dial to defrost it affects the transmission performance! ??

If I have the Heat/AC dial in any position EXEPT defrost 2006 Explorer runs great. When I set it to defrost, the engine seems to rev faster and the transmission strains to shift. It will correct itself after a while if not set to defrost. Any ideas??
