2017 Explorer Sport

I'm pretty excited, I'm the proud new owner of a 2017 explorer sport. Every option except rear console.

Back in 2012 when they announced the explorer sport, I was determined to buy one when they launched. I couldn't strike a deal, so I ended up buying a 13 grand Cherokee trail hawk Hemi.

I should probably mention, I don't drive these SUV's I speak of daily, it's my wife's DD.

Fast forward to 2016, I have two young boys playing travel hockey year round, and my family hauler is a grand Cherokee I bought because I was smitten with it and it's about as practical as multiple butt holes.

So my first choice was a Denali or Burby, but the wife wasn't comfortable with the length. She would have gone with it if I wanted, but I don't have to drive it daily ...she does. We ended up discussing the explorer we looked at before the hawk, so we end up at a ford dealership and she falls in love.....with a platinum.

I convince her the sport is where it's at, we're young and hip , and platinum's are for old folgies

We end up having the dealer locate a 17 sport loaded.
So we're 1200 miles in. On day one on the way to hockey practice we stopped at the weathertech factory store and grabbed the complete liner package. On day two we had the windshield tinted w/ 70% 3m crystalline, and all other windows tinted with 3m 15%.

I also ordered blacked out badges immediately. The Livernois tuner is also on its way. I'm going to try to somewhat document the build in this thread ...

I'm switching to blackhawks plates and Livernois tuner shows on Monday!
Yup, that's pretty sexy! Well done!

How bout a link to the blacked out badges?
Hella nice!
I'm happy to not live in Illinois anymore, hated having to have a front tag.

There you go. Or just search eBay. There are many choices. I let my wife pick, I'm glad she picked the gloss and matte. I think it complements the matte/gloss grill

I went with the "why choose" life... '05 WK with 3" lift on 33's with tons of other goodies for off-road fun, and the '13 X sport for on-road fun. Grand Cherokee's are nice, as long as you can keep up the maintenance... I'm just "happy" my wife is "understanding" of my love for my jeep. She does appreciate the ability to choose the vehicle based on weather, but isn't appreciative of having to "jump" in. Automotive parking light Tire Car Automotive side marker light Wheel

OK, finished up the rear last night. The sport badge was slightly smaller than the stock badge. I am going to look at another one on ebay and possibly order it. This one had to be curved slightly to sit properly on the tailgate. I marked the location of the stock one with painters tape, removed it, and then installed the new black one to ensure it was in the correct location. The Ecoboost 4wd badge I wrapped with gloss black vinyl. It turned out OK, but I could have done a better job if I had not been rushing at midnight to do it. I will probably pull it off and redo it when I am looking for a quick project.
I was surprised at how difficult it was to pop the OEM ford badge off.

I like that. I just got a 2016 explorer sport. It's silver and black. I'm wanting to change the badges like you did too. I love it!!

Yes, the Explorer has been tuned for some time now. I want to say we had the tuner on before we hit 1000 miles.

Its pretty damn quick for a family SUV. I've surprised a few folks leaving a stop light. We are running the 93 performance tune.
Nice! I like the silver too. Tint and badges makes a HUGE difference.

One funny observation with this SUV, I've noticed everyone moves to the right for us. I think it seems to happen more since the badge swap, but who knows...we hardly had any miles when I swapped badges. Might just be the blacked out explorer resembles a cop explorer more so that the ones with the color matched or platinum grille.

Is it possible to buy second row captain chairs? Where would you be able to buy them?
