Strangely, Ford removed the roof rails as a standard option in 2021 on the ST only. We went ahead and purchased an ST with the assumption we can add the roof rails later. Does anyone know if we have to drill holes to do this(I refuse to drill holes in a new car roof) or are their bolt slots already built into the ford roof? It seems like a very unique question as 90% of explorers have roof rails... any information is appreciated!

BTW, we know some ST's do come with roof rails as an add on but the one we purchased did not... limited inventory in the area thanks to all of those COVID issues! Also, I reached out to the dealer on this and they seem clueless, very frustrating.

Thanks,
Brad

I was in the same situation, though I made the added mistake of thinking I could install the rails on my own. It turns out that the holes are pre-drilled and that the roof liner needs to come down to complete the install. From what I recall, factory rails added only a few hundred to the sticker (guesstimate there). Adding rails myself ended up costing me approximately $1,100 in parts and $700 in labor. Huge learning experience for me...
