Hello everyone. Recently, my 05 Eddie Bauer Explorer's tranny started to slip around 40-60 mph. There's a small chance it might have to get repaired. However, I think the time has come to possibly say good bye to my old lady. With all market ludacris going on with market prices. I'm waiting to see what happens the next couple months. My budget is about $15k. Can fellow explorer owners of both models give me the Pro's and Con's between the two. Importantly, mechanically quality is important especially the longevity of the engine & transmission. Thanks everyone.

Do the research on the engine change between 204 and 2015, I believe there was a change for the better in the 2015 turbo, I recently purchased a 2015 Sport with 100K from a dealer, I dodged a bullet when the water pump went while I was looking at the vehicle. The book cost for water pump repair by the dealer was $2200 which they did at their cost. Overall, I really enjoy the Sport model. Also put a code reader on it and see if it throws any codes to determine what you are getting yourself into, as in all cases buyer beware.

Hey charlie, I've been doing some research from time to time. Yeah, there's been different manufactured engines since 2005. I do like the 2014 Sport myself. It's the Turbo that's got me little concerned. The maintenance and cost to repairs down the road. But WOW $2200 for a water pump repair ! Good thing the dealer took care of it. Yeah gonna get a code reader myself. I've been neglecting getting one. Can you recommend a friendly-budget one ?
