Hey everyone, it's me again. I have the red headed cousin, a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer AWD with a 4.0L V6.

I thought I would ask here as well. So ever since I've owned this truck, when I have been driving it for a while, and want to put it from Drive to Reverse, it slams into gear. If it has been parked for a while, or overnight in the driveway, no problems. It usually happens when I've been driving it.

Also, which I think is related, when I'm crusing down the expressway and let off the accelerator, and just touch it to give it some power, you can feel (more than hear) a small pop.

I've been asking about this for a while from different mechanics, and they all seem to point to the motor or transimission mount(s). I need to take it to my mechanic buddy and put it on a lift, but I was wondering if any of you have heard of this before with the Ford Explorer or Mountaineer?

Sounds like a transmission issue, especially since it happens after all the fluids are warmed up. Have you checked the trans filter to see if there is any wear metals in it? Almost sounds like an internal issue. One other thing to check would be the driveshaft joints for slack. Once it’s warmed up, park it and check them with a small pry bar. That should show you where the noise is coming from by shaking the driveline back and forth. Good luck!

This is great information and thank you! I'll check the driveshaft joints for sure!
