I want to try and make my 2013 xlt look like an undercover cop car. That's the goal. The undercover explorers don't have the roof rack rails on them but if I try to remove them, it leaves somewhat of a gutter where they sit. I've tried looking for some sort of plug or cap for them since I don't want it to cause a leaking issue. Plus the roof rack rail base on the front comes down to the top of the windshield so you can see the white plastic that's underneath from the front. How would I go about plugging the gutter?

amc, I can’t remove my rails since I need them, BUT…I hate people that drive tailgating so close to me at highway speed, when I know if something happens in front of me and I slam on my brakes they will end up like an additional stick figure on my rear windshield.

For that reason, being my explorer black on black, with daarrrkk tinted glass, I attached two little 6” antennas and a round “Crown Victoria” cop cruiser antenna. All of them magnetic mount. A beautiful little RF forest !

Results: tailgaters think it twice after seeing the (fake) antenna array and stay at a prudential distance. They’re not sure if the truck is or isn’t, but just in case they stay a bit away. A minimalistic detail makes a big attitude change. Ah, that and the Sherrif’s supporters license plate (includes thin blue line plate holder) that is really cool and mean looking.

LOL, revenge of the Nerds!

Yes! I have a small collection of antennas on my roof as well. I have my cb radio antenna which sits about 2 or 3 feet tall. Then I have 2 short stubby antennas that I have all near the front of my car. My friends will tell me how after class, they see my car on the highway and slow down thinking I'm a cop. I think a nice touch would be New York plates due to them being yellow. They kinda look like the orange permanent plates cop cars have.

If you do take off the rails Please don't throw them away. I'll take them. I will trade them for the spotlight on the left front even. Get back with me if interested
