The single right rear seat (2nd row) makes an irritating noise while driving. Sounds like a loose fitting, possibly. I've taken it to the dealer on 2 occasions and even had the serv. mgr. get in for a ride. He admitted hearing it. Left it for service and was told it was fixed. Not so. The odd thing is, when the seat is folded down or someone is sitting there (or any weight on it) the noise disappears. I'm usually pretty good at this stuff, but this has me baffled. Anyone else experience this issue?
Thanks.

Just leased a 2022 Explorer XLT. I have a similar issue but I thought it was the folding armrest of the 2nd row captain's chairs. Dealer just replaced the armrest but noise still persists. About to investigate myself.

I have the same noise and I think mine is coming from the spring UNDER the drivers side rear seat. If I play around and slide the seat forward and backwards, that reduces/increases the tension on the spring obviously. I think the spring is hitting metal from the vibration of the car. I need to find a way to cover that spring, maybe with a small piece of cloth as a test. It would be ideal to slide a 'tube-like' cover over that spring.

Where can I get a diagram of an armrest where it's attached to captain's seat?

2022 XLT with 11,000 miles. started around 7-8k and getting worse. same as everyone else when someone sits there it goes away for the most part. havent tried folding it down or adjusting yet but i will do that before contacting dealer because its a bigger pain in the ass scheduling and not having a vehicle only to have them say its fixed but its not. i put a BOOMBA blow off valve spacer on this vehicle, K&N ram air and a borla exhaust is next so maybe it will all drown out the non-sense LOL

So, a while ago, I had my son ride with me to hear the noise I've described. He figured it out. Turns out it's nothing more than the friction from the leather of the backrest rubbing the leather from the seat portion when the seat is in the normal upright position. When folded down there is no friction, because the two seat parts are not touching; same as when someone is sitting there. I simply folded some paper napkins and wedged them into the crease of the backrest and actual seat so the two parts no longer rub. No more irritating noise.
